New CD Brasilian Vibes by Arthur Lipner and Bahian percussionist/vocalist Nanny Assis!
Vibes and Marimba share common African roots with Brazilian percussion. Yet, due to the expense of good quality instruments, in addition to other factors including educational resources, there is very little co-mingling of these instruments in Brazilian jazz or MPB (Brasilian Popular Music). Until now! Lipner’s vibes and marimba are the threads connecting these varied tracks in a beautifully produced recording which makes a huge step in moving his instruments forward in the international music scene. BRSAILIAN VIBES was recorded in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and the US, and mixed in Rio November 2009. It contains a wide spread of Brazilian styles in addition to American jazz-influenced tracks. Highlights include the jazz classic Four Brothers (with trombonist Wycliffe Gordon scatting!), Mallet Evolution, Monobloco Revolution (Lipner original recorded in Rio with the samba batucada group “Monobloco”, whom he has performed there with live) and the
luscious and sensual Eu E A Brisa with Vanessa Falabella on vocals. Musicians on various tracks of this cd include Jazz trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, Brasilian guitarist Nelson Faria, trumpet player Michael Leonhart, Rob Curto on accordion and David Darling on cello.
If you play mallets or percussion this is an essential recording you will thoroughly enjoy. The beautiful 8-panel physical cd is available here exclusively, with downloads available at iTunes. So place yourself on the beach in Rio with your marimba and mallets as you dig into BRASILIAN VIBES!!

MALLET FANTASIA
composed by Arthur Lipner and Jens Wendelboe
Mallet Fantasia Concerto - Click here to download free Soloist Part!
Mallet Fantasia is the
culmination of a life-long dream for percussionist /composer Arthur
Lipner. Training in the traditions of jazz and improvisation,
which traditionally use small combos or Big Bands, Arthur always
wanted
to perform with an orchestra or Wind Ensemble but never really
found music that would express his artistic visions. After taking
courses
at Juilliard only several years ago, Arthur began on the journey
to realize this dream. Mallet Fantasia is a mixture of themes and
textures which reflect Arthur's interests in Jazz, World Music
and the orchestral traditions of America and Europe. Mallet Fantasia
was originally titled HYBRIDISATION.
With the use of different
performance techniques on the vibes and marimba, two improvisational
sections and several cadenzas, Arthur has created a musical environment
of freedom and structure, sound color and intrigue, beauty and energy.
This is the first piece in the literature in many ways, including
the use of both vibes and marimba together as a soloistic lead. Norwegian
composer/instrumentalist Jens Wendelboe shared compositional duties
in several important areas and created the orchestration.
Arrangements are now available
